Why can't I just copy my resume onto LinkedIn?

Because they do different jobs. Your resume shows you can do the work. Your LinkedIn profile also needs to show why you want to do it and how you would fit a team, which are the other things recruiters look for. Copying your resume leaves half of your story untold.
