Interview Coaching Cost: Prices, Packages and What You Get

Interview coaching cost guide comparing single sessions, packages, and courses

Sam (a composite of several clients, not one real person) had made it to the final round three times in four months. Three times, the offer went to someone else. The feedback was always some version of “great candidate, just not quite the fit.” By the time Sam started looking into interview coaching, the real question wasn’t whether he needed help. It was how much it would cost, and how much help was enough.

Here’s the short answer: interview coaching is usually priced per session, as a package of sessions, or as a self-paced course, and the right choice depends on how close your interview is and what’s actually going wrong. With me, a single session is $125, and my full “Nail Job Interviews” course is $299. Across the industry, prices vary widely, so it pays to know what you’re buying.

First, a definition. Interview coaching is one-on-one preparation with a professional who helps you identify the right stories, structure your answers, practice out loud, and get honest feedback before the real thing. It’s different from a quick mock interview, because the goal isn’t just rehearsal; it’s figuring out what will make you the obvious hire for this role.

What Drives the Cost of Interview Coaching?

When you compare coaches, prices can look all over the map. A few factors explain most of the difference:

  • Format: live one-on-one sessions cost more than group workshops or self-paced courses.
  • Seniority: executive interview preparation usually costs more because the stakes (and the interview processes) are more complex.
  • Customization: coaching built around your target company, role, and stories takes more preparation than generic practice.
  • Extras: some packages include recorded practice, written feedback, salary negotiation support, or follow-up between sessions.

If you’re curious what happens inside a session, I’ve written about what an interview coach actually does.

Your Options, Side by Side

Option Best for What you get My pricing
Single coaching session A specific upcoming interview Story strategy, answer structure, practice, and feedback $125 per session
A few sessions Multi-round processes or a pattern of near-misses Story bank, practice for each round, offer and negotiation prep $125 per session
“Nail Job Interviews” course Self-starters who want a full framework A structured course with practice materials $299
On-the-Spot strategy session Urgent, everything-at-once needs Two focused hours on resume, LinkedIn, cover letter, and strategy $1,199

You can see the full list on my rates page, and the On-the-Spot session is there if your timeline is tight and your materials need work too.

How to Decide How Much Coaching You Need

Here’s the decision framework I’d use in your shoes:

Choose a single session if…

  • You have one important interview coming up soon.
  • You generally interview well but want a sharper story for this role.
  • You need help with one tricky question (a gap, a layoff, a career change).

Choose a few sessions if…

  • You keep reaching final rounds without an offer, like Sam.
  • You’re facing a multi-stage process: phone screen, panel, case, final.
  • You’re changing careers and need to reframe your story completely.

Choose the course if…

  • You like to work through material at your own pace.
  • You’re early in your search and want a framework before interviews start.

One honest note: practice alone isn’t always the answer. If your stories aren’t right yet, rehearsing them just makes you confidently wrong. That’s why I tell people a mock interview shouldn’t be your first step, and why I encourage clients to prepare proof instead of scripted answers.

If you’re reading this with an interview on the calendar and a knot in your stomach, it may help to talk it through before you decide anything. You can book a free consultation, tell me what’s coming up, and I’ll suggest the lightest option that will actually help.

What Interview Coaching Can (and Can’t) Do

Coaching can help you find your strongest examples, explain your value clearly, handle curveball questions, and walk in calm. It can help you prepare for specific formats too, from recorded HireVue interviews to case and technical interviews and second-round interviews.

What it can’t do is guarantee an offer. Hiring decisions involve budgets, internal candidates, and timing you’ll never see. Anyone who promises you a job is selling something other than coaching. What good coaching does do is make sure that when you don’t get an offer, it isn’t because you undersold yourself.

It also helps to understand the employer’s side. SHRM’s recruiting resources show how organizations structure hiring, and the Occupational Outlook Handbook is a handy way to check how your target role is typically described, so your answers speak the employer’s language. For the bigger career picture, Harvard Business Review’s career planning articles are worth a read.

Is Interview Coaching Worth the Money?

Here’s how I think about it: an interview is the moment where months of job searching either pay off or don’t. If one or two sessions help you land a role you want (or negotiate a better offer once you do), the math tends to work out quickly. I’ve written a separate guide to negotiating your salary without making it weird, which many coaching clients use right after the offer arrives.

It’s also about how you feel walking in. The right interview mindset changes how you show up, and that’s hard to build alone the night before.

“I hired her to help me prepare for a three-stage interview, and she showed up to every session fully prepared, offering thoughtful insights and actionable feedback.”

Questions I Get Asked a Lot

How much does interview coaching cost?

Prices vary widely across the industry, from modest per-session rates to premium executive packages. With me, interview coaching is $125 per session, and my full ‘Nail Job Interviews’ course is $299.

How many interview coaching sessions do I need?

Many people get what they need in one to three sessions: one to build their story bank, one to practice, and one to prepare for a specific final round. Executives and career changers sometimes want more.

What happens in an interview coaching session?

A good session focuses on your target role: identifying the stories that prove you’re a fit, structuring your answers, practicing out loud, and getting specific feedback on content and delivery.

Is interview coaching worth it?

It’s usually worth it when the stakes are high: a role you really want, a big salary jump, a career change, or a pattern of reaching final rounds without getting offers.

Can interview coaching help with salary negotiation?

Yes. Many coaching clients use part of a session to plan how to discuss compensation and respond to an offer with confidence.

Do you offer interview coaching online?

Yes. Sessions are virtual, so you can work with me from anywhere, and I also work with clients in the Denver and Boulder area.

What’s the difference between a session and a course?

A session is live, personalized coaching focused on your situation. A course gives you a structured framework, materials, and practice you can work through on your own schedule.

The short version

  • Interview coaching is usually priced per session, by package, or as a course.
  • With me: $125 per session, or $299 for the full “Nail Job Interviews” course.
  • Buy the lightest option that solves your actual problem: one session for one interview, a few for repeated near-misses or a career change.
